Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Enhancements are Underway

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort recently announced that $25 million in mountain enhancement projects are now underway in the continued development of the mountain and Resort Village.

Arijan van Vuure, President of Kicking Horse reported that “2005 was a banner year for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. With the addition of on-mountain accommodation this past season and more to come next year, we are one step closer to our vision of being a world-class destination resort. The improvement projects underway this summer will enhance the guest experience even more and is only the beginning of other exciting announcements to come,” he said.

Of the $25 million, $21 million is being invested in on-going real estate projects including the Selkirk Resort Homes and Palliser Lodge as well as on-going individual single family homes construction. An additional $4 million is being invested in mountain infrastructure to enhance the year-round guest experience.

Mountain infrastructure projects currently underway include:

  • An extensive summer grooming program and the purchase of new grooming equipment
  • The addition of a mid-station on the Catamount Chair to give access to the Kicking
  • Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge in summer and easier access to beginner terrain in winter
  • Major extension works to the resort’s utility system
  • Addition of extra ticket windows to improve customer service
  • Addition of the first phase of a daycare to respond to the needs of our guests
  • Finalization of the first phase of the Gondola Plaza and parking area
  • Further expansion of commercial facilities
  • Upgrading and installation of resort trails and cross country trails in the base area

Overall investment in Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is expected to reach approximately $150 million by year end. The complete build out of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is expected by 2010 - a mix of town homes, single family lots, condominium lodges, and hotels together with shops, bars, other commercial amenities, additional terrain, and a variety of recreational opportunities. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is approximately 2.5 hours west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway.
